This fierce venomous cobra had scales as hard as rock and his fangs were as big as his mouth. His eyes were sharp as he stayed as still as he could to blend in to the background while his eyes scanned the jungle around him for prey. At last his chance came to him with a little pigeon flying close to the ground only a few meters away from were he was, clearly having no notice of him. He prepared to pounce as he waited for the perfect opportunity, there the opportunity came he pounced right at it with all his power and caught it mid flight. His venomous fangs killed it immediately, well that was dinner he thought.

Holi

 What is Holi?

Holi is ancient Hindu festival that marks the arrival of spring and is mainly celebrated through India and Nepal. Holi is also known as the festival of colour.

Traditions:

Holi has numerous traditions but one of the main one is the throwing of coloured powder and water. The coloured powder they throw at their family and friends to create a vibrant spectacle is actually called gulal.

Food:

At holi we also eat lots of yummy foods to celebrate. Some of the Holi favourites are gujiya a fried dumpling with sweet sugar and syrup, dahi vada fried lentil dumplings and Papori crispy dough wafers.

History:

Holi is important because it brings people back together and fixes relationships. One of the legends is that Holika tried to burn her nephew Prahlad in a fire but burned herself instead and Prahlad was saved by Lord Vishnu.  Holi celebrates good over evil.

Conclusion:

Overall Holi is a celebration for the good over evil and is here to be celebrated by anyone. Holi is a festival of friendship, colour and yummy foods.

Siapo

For the last two weeks of art we have been making a Siapo for the studio. Siapo are a type of Samoan tapa cloth. first we practiced doing some patterns then we made our good copies. I kind of made up my own pattern inspired by the patterns we were shown. Have you ever seen a Siapo?
